Biology - Heart anatomy

STRUCTURE
FUNCTION
DEOXY/OXY BLOOD
LEFT ATRIUM
Collects oxygen, rich blood, returning from lung, and sends it to Left Ventricle
OXY
LEFT VENTRICLE
Pushes blood through aortic valve
OXY
RIGHT ATRIUM
Collects oxygen, poor blood returning from the body and forces it to tricuspid valve to right ventricle
DEOXY
RIGHT VENTRICLE
Collects oxygen-poor blood, + forces it
DEOXY
PULMONARY ARTERY
Caries blood to heart, to lungs to pick up oxygen
DEOXY
AORTA
Largest aorta, carries oxygen, rich blood to rest of body
OXY
PULMONARY VEINS
Carries oxygen, rich blood from lungs back to heart
OXY
SUPERIOR VENA CAVA
Oxygen, poor blood from upper body returns to heart
DEOXY
INFERIOR VENA CAVA
Oxygen, poor blood from lower body returns to heart
DEOXY
ATRIOVENTRICULAR VALVES (Mitral & Tricuspid)
Controls blood flow from Atriums to ventricles
DEOXY/OXY
CHORDAE TENDINEAE
Bring right ventricular walls closer, holds valves in place

SEMI LUNAR VALVES (Pulmonary & Aortic)
control blood flow from ventricles to Aorta/ pulmonary artery
DEOXY/OXY
SEPTUM
Separates Left to right + right atria+ventricles
